In quick succession I wrapped my first production of “Into the Woods”, which went very successfully and my first academic year at Berklee and before I could unwind I’ve picked up my summer workload.
I’m increasingly back in the composers chair. I’m currently music directing and orchestrating a brand new musical, “The Great Gatsby”, with Marblehead Little Theatre. That will go up at the end of June just as I kick-start rehearsals for “The Spongebob Musical”; a fun little break from all the very serious shows I’ve been working on.
I’ll be running dual contracts all summer which means my life will be quite difficult but it also means I get to take an actual vacation in August, something I’m very much looking forward to.
I’m quite exhausted but I’m doing really well. For the past year I’ve had a shopping list of life elements to fix post-unemployment and that list is largely complete. I’ve been learning a lot lately on contracts. I played my first synthesizer book playing in the pit for a high school production of “Something Rotten”, and I’m digging into producing some of the songs I’ve been writing for my voice students.
Oh, and I’ve been taking voice lessons (figured I should formalize some knowledge).
I mentioned to a friend recently that it seems like now, that I have my career somewhat under my feet, I can start filling in the other parts of life artists are always telling people to savor. (Yes I’ve been reading the news, but today’s not the day to focus on that). As I desperately attempt to do far too many things at once, I have a lot to be grateful for.
Anyway I’ve done zilch today and must attempt to remedy that.
